Calling all parents and guardians and community members. We Need You!
GTAA operates entirely on the efforts of dedicated, caring, committed volunteers without which we would not be able to provide the quality programs and activities this community and our kids deserve.
Volunteers not only help coach our youth sports teams, but also strengthen the community. Beyond being visible leaders, educators, and mentors, volunteers provide the nuts and bolts that allow our youth programs to function, such as lining fields, setting up and tearing down events, announcing games, keeping a scorebook, and beyond. The efforts of volunteers resonate throughout the community and contribute to our sense of local pride.
We recognize and respect any hesitation/anxiety one might feel when considering taking their first volunteer coaching job. Do I have the time? What if I never played the sport before? I'm not an expert so how can I teach the game? etc.
Rest assured these are questions every volunteer past and present has had to wrestle with.
We promise you though, it is a worthwhile and enriching experience and one our community/children will benefit greatly from.
Volunteering does not have to be an overwhelming undertaking. At the youth/rec level, volunteering does not require one to be an “expert” in the sport, nor does it require a person to have ever even played the sport before. Simply put, an outstanding youth coach requires a person to be nothing more than caring, kind, and committed to providing an enriching experience for the players.
As an organization, we have a plethora of resources to help new coaches get started. Practice plans and activities, links to training videos, league rules, etc. We also are fortunate to have a cohort of dedicated and experienced veteran volunteers who can share tips, tricks and experiences to help support volunteers new and old. When taking on a volunteering role, you are never alone and become part of the team at GTAA.
The return yielded by volunteering a couple nights a week over the course of an 8 week season is immeasurable.
So when signing your child up, please consider volunteering. Volunteer as an assistant coach to get your feet wet or jump right in as a head coach as many have done in the past. All of our programs require more than one coach to manage effectively so every little bit helps.
Remember, without volunteers GTAA and other local youth sports programs would not exist.
Thank you in advance for your commitment to GTAA and the youth of Green Tree!
